ABOUT US

Stellar Arts Foundation, a educational and charitable non-profit organization, is based in Coupeville, on Washington State's beautiful Whidbey Island. Another manifestation of Coupeville’s robust arts community, the foundation was formed in 2000.

Foundation Profile

The Stellar Arts Foundation conducts and provides exceptional, educational Artist’s Tours.

Our purpose is to develop and improve the participating artists’ capabilities and knowledge and provide inspiration.

Our belief is that by providing quality art instruction, while exposing artists to the culture and natural beauty of the country visited, we emphasize a unique adventure that will continuously inspire the artist.

This process celebrates and enhances the learning experience of the artists while providing support to children in these countries.

The Foundation generates funds through the following, designed for, and related to the purpose, activities:

  •      Adventure Artist’s Tours

  •      Private and corporate donations

  •      Grants

Stellar Arts Foundation's Adventure Artist's Tours emphasize adventure that continuously inspires the artist.  In 2007 we are visiting Italy, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.  You will be surprised and touched by the warmth and hospitality in these countries.

Adventure Artist's Tours

To Italy, Bulgaria and Prague/Czech Republic .

The reason for choosing these countries are:

  • Intimate familiarity: Stella Canfield, co-founder and tour leader for the Adventure Artist's Tours, was born and raised in Bulgaria, speaks the language and is familiar with the Bulgarian culture

  • Bulgaria suffered from having been behind the "Iron curtain" until recently.  A  misconception of the society and lack of familiarity have left the country relatively undiscovered by the Western tourist.  We see this as an advantage.

  • Prague's beauty is gaining incredible interest.

  • Italy is the cradle for the Arts.

  • The countries are small, hospitable and beautiful.

  • Each country offers a sense of adventure into the unknown which heightens the senses and adds an intensity to the experience.  To the artist, this stimulation is the essence of creativity.

  • Delightful surprise may be the common denominator of these countries.

Charities

We at SAF believe in global cultural and arts exchange to preserve and help old cultures and traditions.  We believe in giving and sharing to help the less fortunate.  We believe in uniting people.  We believe the Arts are the way!

An existing orphanage in the village of Barzitsa, near Varna, Bulgaria has been adopted by the Foundation.  With the help of Mitko and Jivka Novkovi, two Bulgarian psychologists, an after school arts and crafts program has been established and a part time psychologist been hired.  This will help the home care for the children as well as prepare the children to enter into society as productive citizens.  In addition, our goal is to help every child leave the home with a vocation license.

Recent art tours to Bulgaria and Prague, the Czech Republic, made us realize how much the artists enjoyed the experience.  The tours highlighted strong empathy felt by the visiting artists toward the people of these countries and especially towards the children in the orphanage.  The touring artists are invited and welcomed to visit the children's home.

Stellar Arts Foundation hopes to make a meaningful contribution to both the touring artist and the people of the visited countries.
